GNS Geology Map of New Zealand
An interactive map showing the geology of New Zealand's main islands is derived from the New Zealand Geological Survey maps "North Island" and "South Island" at 1:1 000& 000 scale (1972). Since the publication of these maps, a new 1:250 000 scale geological mapping programme has been undertaken in New Zealand. The project, called QMAP, has completed 21 1:250 000 geological maps. The maps cover all of New Zealand and their accompanying texts describe each area’s geomorphology, stratigraphy, tectonic history, geological resources, geological hazards and engineering geology in general terms.
